Whose responsibility is it to have a smoke alarm fitted?

The Building Regulations 2012 identifies smoke alarm installation as the responsibility of:

  • the vendor (seller) prior to the transfer of home ownership or,
  • the landlord prior to commencement of a rental agreement or,
  • any conscientious householder
